Just found an article on Dean Karnazes on Wired.com. WOW!
Many things in there I can really relate to. The article starts out like this:
“Dean Karnazes ran 50 marathons in 50 days. He does 200 miles just for fun. ”
Way to go!!
Still fighting with my running injury. Haven’t had the time to focus on this yet, other more important issues to be resolved have taken up my time.
This guy does ultra-marathons and multimarathons for breakfast and looks to be in excellent shape.
There is especially one quote worth remembering in the article:
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!! What a ride!”
People might think that this guy is crazy – why is he willing to do so much damage to his body (not that he looks damaged). Thing is however that this is being said while most people are continueing damaging their own body and life with too much (unhealthy) food to themselfes and their families, living a life full of stress and unsatisfaction. A life I often see where the fundamental joy, love, a good health etc. have left their life and we seem to forget the values from which that we would really like to live our lifes.
Steven R. Covey (author of “7 habits”) describes in one of the seven steps, an exercise where you visualize your own burial and you are asked to think about, what people will remember about you and your life. For me, this is a very strong excercise and makes me think about if I am really doing what I want for myself.
Ask the questions:
Are you doing what you want for yourself? Are you happy with your life?
And if not – then remember that only one person can change this! You do have a choice on how you want to live this one life. And you are in charge!!
I have talked to people that really want to change things in their life. But a lot of times they do not even want to look at the consequences, if they changed what they really wanted to change. Looking at the consequences is a good thing that enables you to make a decision and have peace instead of letting things that are undecided destroy your life. It might just be that you are really doing the right thing when you have made up your decision. But don’t waste your life being afraid of consequences you might not even have faced.
